Story:

Peccata minuta (literally means, «minor sins») FEMININE NOUN. Ser peccata minuta to be no big deal, be unimportant.

It’s a Latin common expression to indicate a small error, a minor mistake with no importance. Something trivial, insignificant and insubstantial.

The lamb iconography is inspired by the painting ‘Agnus Dei’ by Francisco de Zurbarán (Prado Museum, Madrid. Spain).

The lamb lies with bound feet in an unmistakably sacrificial posture curiously reminiscent of the images of martyred saints. A lamb that seems to meekly accept its fatal destiny.

Zurbarán doesn’t use any established iconography to paint the common God’s Lamb (Agnus Dei) representation. He avoids those religious connotations and allows us to contemplate this work exclusively as a wonder of pictorial mastery or a succulent culinary promise.

SANTAVANITAS Peccata Minuta signet ring is adorned with rosemary branches and flowers. In the old times, rosemary was used in purification rituals. In medicine it is well known for helping to relieve pain and accelerate cicatrization. Rosemary has also been used as a culinary herb in the Mediterranean cuisine since ancient times. In perfumery it is seen as an emblem of remembrance.

This piece aims to use this duality to give perspective to the self-sacrifice, the guilt and the punishment that often we impose on ourselves.

The Peccata Minuta ring is a reminder of the perspective that we need in order to judge ourselves with clarity and honesty.
